Holowesko Cycling Team Wins Big At Winston-Salem Classic

Robin Carpenter of the Holowesko-Citadel pro cycling team continued his winning ways in 2017 with an impressive victory at the Winston-Salem Classic. Carpenter’s teammate, Ty Magner, took victory in the event’s criterium the day prior. The short but tough climb up Pilot View Street proved the deciding portion of the racecourse, as Carpenter put in a solid attack to distance himself from his two rivals.

“At the very end, I knew I was the strongest guy in that three-man group, or the guy who had the most left,” said Carpenter. “So I knew if I only went up that hill steady but hard, they’d probably be able to stay on my wheel. So I knew I had to hit them as hard as I could right from the bottom and distance them and demoralize them a little bit.”

It was Carpenter’s first win at the prestigious event, and he now adds that to his impressive palmares that also includes overall victory at last year’s Tour of Alberta.
