Gallery: Pro Triathlete Josh Amberger's 2020 Felt IA Triathlon Race Bike

Josh Amberger is one of the most popular and unique stars in professional triathlon. Widely regarded as the best swimmer in the sport, Josh has been first out of the water in the past three Kona World Championship events. Although the global COVID-19 pandemic has caused professional racing to be put on hiatus for much fo the 2020 season, we still set Josh up with a brand-new race bike for the year, which includes a custom paint scheme developed in conjunction with Josh himself. THE BUILD

• FRAME: Felt IA
• DRIVETRAIN: SRAM Red eTap AXS 1x
• GEARING: 52t front ring, 10-33 rear cassette, 170mm crank size
• COCKPIT: Zipp Vukashift AXS 90 aero extensions featuring in-built AXS Blip Box
• SADDLE: Gebiomized Stride TT saddle
• WHEELS: Zipp 858 NSW front wheel (and rear disc wheel for select racecourses)
• TIRES: Schwalbe Pro One TT tires
• PEDALS: Speedplay Zero Aero Nanogram pedals

 

THE PAINT JOB 

JOSH AMBERGER: "I've been riding this bike for eight seasons now, so I'm very well used to the geometry and the feel of the bike. However, we've found a way to make the bike look better and better each year. I had to push the team pretty hard to make me a brown bike, but after some 'ums' and 'ahs,' the guys at Felt came through and I think the finished look is really special, and it looks insanely unique."

WANT TO BUILD UP YOUR DREAM BIKE?

JOSH AMBERGER: "If an athlete is keen to build up an IA frame, I would recommend selecting the disc brake option. It is stiffer and more reliable, plus much safer for urban training environments. I like Sram Red AXS because it's a fantastic groupset, but also super easy to install. I can knock these builds out really quickly. I selected 1x because the gear ratio is really well-tuned to triathlon racing over flatter courses with a big 52x10 low gear option for the fast tail winds in Kona, or the non-technical descents that we typically see in triathlon racing. With this groupset, I also have a reasonable low gear range at the top for some punchier climbs."
