If there was ever a sign that triathlon racing was back, it was the sight of 1,900+ athletes descending on the Ironman Tulsa event. With triathlon racing gradually returning to various regions around the world, many of the top pros have been carefully selecting certain events to hone their race schedules to start generating some race-day fitness as early in the season as possible.

A few weeks back, Daniela Ryf kicked off the North American leg of her 2021 racing season with a dominant victory at Ironman 70.3 St. George. This past weekend, she proceeded to follow it up with another incredible win at an even more prestigious event. Ironman Tulsa was playing host to the North American Championship, and the Swiss star wasted no time in asserting her dominance over a an impressively stacked field.

Emerging out of the water in second position, Ryf took control of the race aboard her Felt IA triathlon bike when she took the lead and built up a nearly 15-minute gap over her rivals. She then put in a solid run and finished the race in a total time of 8:40:34—five minutes ahead of the second-place competitor. Afterwards, Ryf took to social media to thank the event's volunteers and fans for putting on a terrific event, and to thank them for their support.

"What would we do without our race supporters?," Ryf wrote on her Instagram. "Thank you for suffering with us, getting up early on a Sunday morning, helping us to get ready, waiting and running around in rain all day and being there in [the] finish line to share the joy and pain. I’m so grateful for your support and the amazing memories we make through racing."

Ryf will continue to optimize her training racing schedule over the coming months, with her sights set firmly on another win at the biggest race of all in October—the world championships in Kona, Hawaii.
